HMs rural visit
Royal Tour 2 February, 2011 - On January 10, His Majesty the King ventured for a trip to rural Bhutan.
He stopped for the night at Yungdro Chholing Dzong in Trongsa. Villagers said His Majesty spent a night in prayers with Pema Lingpas Machhen every time he travelled the route. The next day, His Majesty met with the people and shared a tokha before continuing the journey. Driving on a farm road, two old women and a man were seen frantically climbing up the hill. His Majestys car stopped suddenly and before the dusts spawned could settle, His Majesty walked towards them and said, if you can take the trouble to walk to the road to meet me, I can definitely come to your house to meet you.Such personal visits to households and intimate moments with villagers were the hallmark of the royal tour. His Majesty walked from Panthang to Lingmapong in Goshing gewog and onwards Chenga Zam in Zhemgang. He also travelled to Pemagatshel where he visited Tshelshing Zor and Dizama villages under Nganglam Dungkhag.Throughout the journey, His Majesty met the people as they gathered to receive him and proceeded to visit them in their houses. The families were overwhelmed to have His Majesty walk to each home despite having it scattered across the valleys and hills. The journey was defined by infinite patience and compassion. His Majesty listened to personal stories of aspirations, hardships and needs. He offered advice, comfort and his views on local issues and vision for the nation. His Majesty spent much time interacting with students working on roads and in villages ferrying oranges to road heads. He was deeply touched by their hard work and commitment as they tried to make money to supplement their ! families incomes. They were examples for the rest of the society - Individuals with right priorities and spirit. His Majesty was heartened to observe people of all ages and from different walks of life gather in the evenings, sitting round the bonfires, for light conversations. It reflected strong community spirit. He empathised with the hardships of rural life and observed the need for humility and simplicity in the lives of those more fortunate. His Majesty also visited army personnel, dzongkhag staff and government project sites throughout the tour. Before returning to Thimphu on January 30, he oversaw final preparations for the De-Suung Volunteers Program in Wangduephodrang.By Contributed by Kezang Wangchuk
