Meat shop robbed of sikam

26 January, 2011 - With the daw dangpai losar approaching, followed by a month long meat ban, people have come up with ways to stock up meat, or at least thats one way to look at it.

A meat shop in Bumthang was robbed of some of its stock last Sunday. The culprit had broken in through the window to enter the shop that belonged to Dilip Khan. He lost about five packets of chicken and about six kilograms of dried pork. I am surprised people can dare to take up such steps for a few kilo of meat, said Dilip Khan, adding the culprit had checked the cash box that was empty that night. The case was reported to police, who took the details, including photographs of foot prints left behind. This was the second meat burglary case following the one reported sometime in December. Robin meat shop in Chamkhar lost meat worth Nu 38,000. We reported to police and it is being investigated, said Roshan of the Robin meat shop. But I have no hope because meat can be eaten without leaving a clue behind. Some residents of Bumthang expressed concerns about the boundaries people were crossing. It is shocking people can commit crime for a small amount of meat, said one. It is embarrassing as well.By Samten Yeshi
